Our Facilities

General Site Information

Kitchen and Dining Facilities: Our dining area is open air and shaded by curtains which makes it a pleasant place to enjoy the warm climate as you eat by candlelight. Our kitchen has one very large solar fridge, two sinks, running water, stove and all amenities that you would need. Our power runs to the fridge 24/7; however, it is not suitable to keep a lot of beverages, ice coolers are a better option.

Solar Electricity: 100% of our electricity is from the solar panels on site and there is electricity from 7 am to 10 pm in the main areas (main palapa, kitchen, bathrooms, dining room and kitchen).
There is a charging station for phones in the main palapa area with a 110 ac/dc plug. There is no wifi on site but there is cell service for most phones depending on the service provider.
We do have solar lamps in each room that are not connected to the main system, so after 10 pm each room and the bathrooms have illumination.
Note: Mexico plugs are the same voltage as Canada/USA and require no adaptor.

Meeting Facilities:

Our Central Palapa can be set up as a meeting space for 10 people.

Our Desert Palapa can be set up with chairs as a meeting space for 16 people.

Lodging: Our 8 beautiful desert Eco-casitas for two people have stone floors, stucco walls, and a thatch roof. Solar powered lamps in each room and a side table. 4 rooms can be set up with a queen bed for couples. Bedding and towels are provided.

No Daily Maid Service in rooms While weekly linens and bath towels are included in the unit, daily maid service is not included in the rental rate. We suggest you bring beach towels. We do not permit towels or linens to be taken off from the property.

For retreat leaders: we offer private accommodations from our guest rooms in our studio Casa Calma with its private bathroom, a queen size bed, and sitting area.

Bathroom Facilities: We offer shared bathroom facilities, two dry toilets and two showers and sinks. In addition to the regular showers, we also have solar bag showers that use the sun to heat and use less water. We do not keep the water hot at all times. Showers are heated upon demand, and it takes about 20 minutes to heat the water in the boiler. Please ask for the water to be heated when your group is ready. There is sufficient hot water in the heaters for all 16 people to have a short shower (5 minutes each).

Water: Water Conservation is a core value at La Duna and all our water is brought in by truck from La Paz. Thus, we try our best to conserve water by not running the sinks, faucets or showers when we don’t need to. If you are washing your own dishes please be conscious of your water use.

Smoking: We are a non smoking facility. There is no smoking allowed on site. As we are located in the desert and our roofs are dry palm leaves there is a high risk of a fire hazard.

Caretakers/Host Residence: There is a residence for our own site caretakers which monitor the property 24 hours a day and who will be on site to greet you and answer any questions you may have for your stay.

Animals/Pets: As we are an ecological center and strive to protect the animals that live in harmony at La Duna, animals and pets are not allowed to be brought on site without a leash. During your stay you will enjoy the many animals that visit around our site including many species of birds and reptiles.
